mode of address

Mode of address in media

The mode of address is the ways in which relations between addresser and addressee are constructed in a text, for example how music magazines are presented to the audience.

There are four main types of models:
  • 1st person
  • 3rd person
  • Formal
  • Informal
In magazines the mode of address influences choice by using different genres, the format of the magazine and the different target audiences.

There are also features that represent informal text in different ways, such as colloquial language, which can be interpreted as 'slang' also there is expletive language which comes across as informal as it is known for 'swearing'.
